Dig
into new community garden

COBOURG -- Eager to get your hands dirty this spring to
grow your own fruit and vegetables?
A two-hour workshop on organic gardening is being
offered Saturday, March 28, from 10 a.m. to noon at the
Northumberland Heights Conference and Retreat Centre
Natural Community Garden.
The conference and
retreat centre, located at 795 Northumberland Heights
Rd., has supplied a
five-acre plot for a community garden on land that was
formerly farmed, said organizer Colleen O'Malley Weber.
Ms. Weber said the
group hopes to set up a series of plots for those
interested in an organic-minded community garden to
learn, share, celebrate, play and network.
|
|
She also hopes to include plots where children can learn
and garden, and in the future, connect with food banks,
the Northumberland United Way and others "to see if we
can offer some complementary plots for their groups, and
donate food back to the food bank(s)."
This introductory
session has information and how-tos on growing produce
in your own backyard, or in a community garden plot.
Whether you're looking to reduce your grocery bills,
learn more about organic gardening or put home-grown
food on your table, register for the workshop by getting
in touch with Jeff Weber, of Soul Vision, at
905-342-2320 or
jeff@soulvision.ca.
You can also contact Northumberland Heights at
